![]() From the Principal This month I have been focused on my passions. Our friend, Noah Webster, tells us that a passion is a strong, powerful, controlling emotion. Emotional words that are used to describe our passions include joyfulness, elation, and jubilant. On the opposite end are words such as despice, disgusting, and repulsive. Like most of you, I spend my time on the passions that fill my life with gladness. Today, I spent about one hour enjoying, or relishing, in one of my greatest passions---children. It was my privilege to be in classrooms with students conversing about their learning targets for today. My heart swelled each time one would stop and ponder before answering a question. The classes were filled with students who were focused and intense about learning. Equallly important to me are the hallway moments when students tell me about the Fearsome Fact of the Day or about a book they are reading, or share with me about the dog's newest trick. What else is a passion of mine? Learning. EVERY day it is important to me that I challenge my mind. I must admit that I am not great at challenging my physical muscles, but I do engage my brain several times a day. I often ask people about what they are currently reading. I have a goal to read a book by Hellerman so I can have a book conversation with my neighbor. For me, I am reading how to help people develop thinking skills because I want the students of Spring Hill to think deeply. The people of Spring Hill are one of my strongest passions. To me, they are more valuable than diamonds, rubies, or all the monies in the world. Today, and every day, my goal is to work hard so that the people of Spring Hill are more prepared than they were yesterday. What are your passions? How do people know that your are dedicated to your passions? ![]() School Supplies for Each Grade
